Unless you rather be a slave…
It was the great Thomas Paine who said the right to vote is the “primary right by which rights are protected. To take away this right is to reduce a man to slavery, for slavery consists in being subject to the will of another.”
In six short weeks we have the power to change the world. We have it. You have it, I have it, it is ours. You need to take a moment to appreciate this right. It is not a right that people have always had. There are people in other countries by the millions who are, by Mr. Paine’s description, enslaved. Not us. We are Americans we are free to choose who we want to lead our land.
This right was given to us as a gift from our forefathers who fought for this right and even died for this right. They gave their lives so that their children and their children’s children could live in a free world. Brave people like Susan B. Anthony, John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated their lives to help ensure that every man and woman could vote. If you decided not to vote you are pissing on their graves.
You have a few days left (in PA) to register to vote. If you have not done it, do it right now. You must do it at least 30 days in advance of the election. (Oct 4.) Click here for the PA voter registration. If you are a student you need to declare residency in the state at least 30 days (Oct. 4) before the election. If you do not do that you can still vote easily by filing an absentee ballot here.
If you do not think voting is important you are wrong. It is this tragic miscalculation that the republican minority (yes, I said minority) uses to control the white house, a majority of the governorships, control of the senate and control of the House of representatives when they only account for 30% of the population.
Our time to speak has come. Do what is right for out country. The choice is yours, register and vote, or become enslaved for the next four years.
